Deb wrote poems but not to music.

Steve wrote songs but none with lyrics.

They met.

They brought their friends.

The band Glen Iris first formed when Debbie Miller met Stephen Marr in the summer of 2007. Debbie, a talented singer and lyricist, had just returned from a semester abroad at Oxford studying poetry. Steve, a gifted guitar and piano player with a keen ear for catchy melodies and unique chord progressions, had been looking for a writing partner to contribute lyrics to his upbeat, playful compositions. They turned out to be a perfect match. Soon they were not only collaborating on songs together, but also happily married. They spent the next couple years working on new material and perfecting their sound.

During that time their friends Joshua Monteroso (bells, keyboard, percussion) and Derek Halet (lead guitar) joined the band. In the summer of 2010, with 15 strong tracks under their belt, they brought in Nashville-based Ryan Truso to produce their first album, and hired two studio musicians to play on the recordings--James Willis and Spencer Wynn, both of whom eventually became full time band members. The result is their self-titled debut album, Glen Iris, which they released in the summer of 2011--a collection of meticulously crafted indie pop anthems that perfectly showcase Debbie and Steve's joyful, carefree musical sensibilities.

For those who miss the era of rock where music had bravado and albums had artwork, we present to you...hope. Echoes de Luxe have a sound and spirit that embodies 70's era rock bred with the sonic experimentation of today.  Echoes de Luxe released their debut EP in March of 2009.  Mixed by Alex Newport (Jubilee, Mars Volta), and mastered by Pete Lyman (Mars Volta, Death Cab for Cutie), the 5 songs won them an early champion in Jane's Addiction guitarist, Dave Navarro. He played their songs on his weekly radio show “Dark Matter” and invited the band to perform on-air in the Indie 103.1 studios.  After playing shows in support of the EP, the band began work on self-produced recordings in their home studio. Releasing them as “The Notremonde Demos” in February of 2010, the songs garnered them some more critical praise.  In 2011 Echoes de Luxe teamed up with Velvet Revolver’s Dave Kushner and veteran producer Ryan Williams to work on their next album, set to release in August 2012.

Some things are eternal. Love songs. California sunsets. The ukulele.

Leftover Cuties embody all of that goodness; their breezy, sophisticated songs evoke a magic-hour stroll on thebeach with a special someone. Who knows what year it is? Who cares when the songs are this sweet?

To call Leftover Cuties retro or throwback would be too easy, and frankly dismissive. Sure, the music fits beside Billie Holiday, but it’s also current in its sex appeal, its sophistication, its confidence.  The Cuties’ music – plied with upright bass, accordion, the brushed drums, and yes, ukulele – is not slavishly old-timey, but honors its forebears in the right way.  Melody.  Sharp playing. Stylized, confident, character-laden singing.

Well known as the band behind the theme song for The Big C, Leftover Cuties have also made a name for themselves playing shows around their hometown of Los Angeles. With two EPs and an album under their belt, the band will be releasing their next full length album this year, and continuing to captivate audiences around the world.

The Peach Kings consist of Texas-born Paige McClain Wood and Silver Lake,  Los Angeles native Steven Trezevant Dies.

Though formed in San Francisco, the band currently resides and works in Los Angeles alongside an awesome community of supportive individuals, artists, and brands.

The Peach Kings draw their sound and inspiration from the smoky smooth crackle of blues, folk, and soul vinyls as well as the hypodermic tones  synthesized in various beat laboratories

across the globe. Stripped down, The Peach Kings' power is derived from Paige's hauntingly sensual vocals combine with Steven's complementary rhythm and picking. Anything else is just

jam on the pancakes; an edible blues concoction.

The Deli Los Angeles Review July 31 2012

With three songs to their name and only a couple of performances behind them, The Rebel Light is a LA-based sibling trio in its infancy, drifting from one influence to the next with soulful energy, and an innocence that stretches right to the edge of kitschy. Their first song, 'Goodbye Serenade' celebrates every milestone of the 20th century onwards, from the first man on the moon to the birth of Facebook, it could just about be a true cynic's worst nightmare if it weren't for the momentum of the soundtrack.

Featuring a nostalgic waltz with piano, xylophone and trumpet, some pompous folk-rock and electronic-infused indie rock, their first EP (to be released by the end of summer) will be quite the eclectic little set. As we speak, the band is getting back from NYC, where they appeared on the Catalpa weekender's bill alongside the likes of Snoop & The Black Keys- not bad for a second show, right? For another chance to say “I saw them as they were just starting” (who doesn't love that?) catch their next appearance at LA's Street Food Cinema on August 11th – Tracy Mamoun

Bryce Soderberg and the 2nd Wheel are an alternative indie-pop band based out of  Los Angeles, California.  Formed in the spring of 2012, the project was birthed as a result of songs written by Bryce Soderberg during his still current days as long time bassist of the Multi-Platinum rock group Lifehouse.  “Initially this was just a passion project, a side band for me,” laughs Soderberg, “but after a few shows and getting such positive feedback, I don’t want to stop!”  Having worked on the upcoming self titled EP with NIN keyboardist Allesandro Cortini and Abandoned Pools frontman Tommy Walter, you can expect songs of heartache, happiness in an LA lived adolescence with sounds from past and present.

While many American boys grow up imagining themselves as future basketball, football or baseball stars, things were different for the kids in Decorator. It’s no real surprise that LA’s Silver Lake neighbourhood – the antithesis of traditional Americana - bears fruit of a different color, and thus no wonder that the brothers Melendrez - Miles, Alix, and Reece, to be more precise - were each wielding guitars before the age of ten and dreaming of life on stage instead of a playing field.  Joined by childhood friends Matt Mumcian and Lukas Frank, the Melendrez brothers originally took the band name Raheem Cohen, a reflection of the boys’ upbringing, as they were born of mixed race parents and raised in an LA neighbourhood famous for attracting people of all stripes. The idea of mixing a distinctly Jewish surname with a first name of Muslim decent was as reflective of their non-traditional home life as it was with the melting pot of musical influences that defined the band’s sound.  Decorator is a reflection of the eclectic world around them and the musical legends that they covered as children. “A lot of bands are eclectic from song to song, as one track sounds funky, another song rocks, and a third song sounds like a soul tune,” explains Alix. “The difference with us is we have a bunch of songs that sound like many of those things all at once. There’s typically something within each tune that’s funky, soulful, and still has kind of a gritty rock edge to it, too.“

Wing and hollow is comprised of Haven and Jill Lamoureux, an indie-folk duo joined in heart and song. Haven’s roving guitar play accompanies Jill’s soulful vocals to create an eerie and haunting atmosphere. The band’s inspiration stems from their love for folk and rock of the 60’s and 70’s.

The duo's first EP “Frozen Trees,” is a melancholy love letter to those influences. The album walks the icy byroads of lost love, dreams deferred and isolationism and it turns onto the springtime main street of spiritual rebirth. It captivates and consoles, elevates and emboldens.

Provocative ambient melodies and image-driven rhythmic lyrics. Grey Eastern's single off of the new self titled EP, "Glitters Like Gold" was recently featured on SiFi's show Defiance with original tracks from the EP written/recorded by Pete Min (Debbie Harry), Eric Shermerhorn (Ziggy Stardust, Seal & Lucinda Williams) and Jess Furman (SXSW, Sundance Film Festival).  Originally from New York, artist/producer/vocalist Jess Furman re-connected with her brother's childhood best friend and producer/guitarist Kyle Mangels who also had made the cross-country move. They began sharing a recording studio at Hollywood Sound in LA. In 2013 they were finally able to get Jess' brother, guitarist Greg Furman to put his life in a car and come out West. With the addition of Brandon Pierce on bass, Brant Cole on drums and Nancy Kuo on violin, Grey Eastern came to life.

New LA-based rock band Black Belt KARATE has embraced the new music market by forsaking traditional album-release with an inventive new strategy of independent single release and corresponding music videos, beginning with their debut release "Servant" as a featured iTunes single on Aug 14, 2012 - and now their follow up "Kaleidoscope" on Oct 30, 2012. Both feature conceptual-driven visualizations from director Tyler Jackson, chosen in part for his highly-stylized visual approach with artists including Korn, Papa Roach, NIN, etc. The band's marriage of traditional and cutting edge modern business ethic is also reflected in their once driving & tight melodic So-Cal desert rock and progressive vocal arrangements, but fueled with an old-school east coast frenetic punk energy, attitude, and grit.  And now their music is available in long form with the release of their debut EP "Volume 1", once again a featured release on iTunes

To support the recording of their first full-length album, Bravesoul was able to independently raise $10,000 through a successful Indiegogo campaign.
